I must say, I think that Ron Paul looks pretty good right about now! Better than the other candidates I've seen so far, and I definately agree with his stance on the Patriot Act, which violates the freedoms that America has always stood for. Also, it's about time that the Constitution was given some attention.

Oh, Ron Paul isn't really a liberal, but the two issues I mentioned previously are of utmost importance to me, and that's why I wouldn't vote for him. Because the conflict in Iraq is one we must prevail in, and the Patriot Act is essential to give our government the tools they need to combat individuals that would do us harm. On those two issues, he's in line with what the Democrats would like to see happen: a waving of the white flag in Iraq, and keeping the government in the dark as to what terrorist operations are going on. Another interesting thing to mention, the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act was recently amended by Congress to the dismay of Democrats -- this allows the U.S. government to survey terrorist contacts with people in the United States. The President has full constitutional authority to gather intelligence overseas without a court order. Interesting. You're comparing the Patriot Act to Nazism. And there's that word again, 'fear tactics,' -- but I thought the war on terror was a bumper-sticker? Recently, Dianne Feinstein told Chris Wallace of Fox News, "Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way." Is that so? With the Fairness Doctrine legislation passed in 1949, it was designed to establish a level of political correctness and guarantee that both sides were heard. However, is that really what happened? Before the legislation was struck down by Ronald Reagan when he vetoed an attempt to resurrect the bill in 1987, television as a whole remained largely left-wing. Individuals like Walter Cronkite slanted the evening news for over a decade. Today, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN are still liberal safe havens. Conservatives by and large have an extremely difficult time getting a fair shake in those arenas. However, with the advent of Fox News and talk radio, conservatives are finally being heard. Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, and Rush Limbaugh have all attracted monumental audiences, and they shouldn't be silenced. Liberals have nearly everywhere else to peddle their filth, yet now they're trying once again to stifle dissenting views. That was a rather long-winded explanation, but for a party that in theory holds themselves up as the advent of free speech -- they continue to try and silence those with views that conflict with their own. Now, if that's not Nazism, I'm not sure what is. We can debate all day on whether we should have gotten involved in Iraq or not, but that doesn't matter any longer. The fact of the matter is, we're there now, and we need to decide what to do. We can wave the white flag of surrender, turn and run, knowing countless Iraqis will die, and the country will become a safe haven for future terrorists, or we can make the tough decision, but the right one -- and stand and fight. We've made considerable progress, and the troop surge is reducing violence. Family values has been so reduced to "Oppose gays and abortions" that I don't take anyone who uses the term seriously anymore. That's so off topic! But, very well -- I'll humor you once again. I think gays and lesbians are individuals too. As a devout Catholic, I believe traditional marriage should be protected, but the individual benefits that married straight couples get should also be extended to same-sex couples. I just don't think of them as being married. However, this particular discussion isn't appropriate for this thread, because we've already gone so off topic. If you'd like to discuss this in the other thread that's already quite lengthy, I'd be more than happy to. Huh, you have been lied and now you attack me on it... The truth is USA had no reason to go to the Iraq, they lied to you. You seem to like that you have a president who lies to you, Ron seems to have too good voting record for you. He follows the constitution, the founding fathers. Your leaders just say that it´s a piece of paper. What´s wrong with your head if you think that you can change peoples lifes with force ? Are you a control freak or what ? You can´t never go to other land and tell them how to live ? What you would think if Muslims come to USA like you did at the Iraq ? And How easy it´s to Osama to recruit new terrorists, when USA is out there ? Propaganda has hitted you very good if you think that you have done something good in Iraq. You should really read the CIA report about BLOWBACK and you would understand why terrorists attack USA. I´m an European (english isn´t my first language) for Ron Paul and there are lot of us! Here´s a video of your kind of people, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSk4SUpWVuY QUOTE Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. War and Foreign Policy The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives, thousands of seriously wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars. We must have new leadership in the White House to ensure this never happens again. Both Jefferson and Washington warned us about entangling ourselves in the affairs of other nations. Today, we have troops in 130 countries. We are spread so thin that we have too few troops defending America. And now, there are new calls for a draft of our young men and women. We can continue to fund and fight no-win police actions around the globe, or we can refocus on securing America and bring the troops home. No war should ever be fought without a declaration of war voted upon by the Congress, as required by the Constitution. Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations. Too often we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised. Too often we have supported those who turn on us, like the Kosovars who aid Islamic terrorists, or the Afghan jihads themselves, and their friend Osama bin Laden. We armed and trained them, and now we’re paying the price. At the same time, we must not isolate ourselves. The generosity of the American people has been felt around the globe. Many have thanked God for it, in many languages. Let us have a strong America, conducting open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations. Back to issues main page › http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/war-and-foreign-policy/ Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record: He has never voted to raise taxes. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget. He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership. He has never voted to raise congressional pay. He has never taken a government-paid junket. He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. He voted against the Patriot Act. He voted against regulating the Internet. He voted against the Iraq war. He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year. Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress. -------------------- |

Propaganda 'hitted' me good? Lets learn the English language first, please. Classy. You've been picking-and-choosing what you respond to for this whole thread, but this elitist non-rebuttal is just too much.... So unless you speak or write perfect English, you're not allowed to engage in public debate? I'd like to see you debate politics in a second language. You could've explained why you're not a control freak instead of dismissing him on the simple basis that he's not a native speaker. I mean, no one's perfect, right?
He continues to call for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, and that's something myself and many other conservatives consider dangerous to say the least. I would never in my widest dreams vote for him. http://www.drgrammar.org/faqs/#34 “…myself shouldn't appear as a substitute for I or me.” Its been proven that most Americans………Its becoming a bore, because I state the reasons why……Certainly, but its a noble cause……Its important that we prevail in Iraq… …I was saying -- its likely we'll need another massive attack on our homeland for them to get the message. of course, that's not what it was intended to be at first, but what its become. I mean, really -- its called difference of opinion. http://www.cgl.uwaterloo.ca/~csk/its.html This post has been edited by Brian11785: Aug 21st 2007, 5:46 PM --------------------

I thought about using that quote earlier. I don't know why I didn't. I guess I feared it'd be a little too over-the-top (like copying and pasting a swastika isn't, right?) I actually own a hideous yellow shirt with that quote on it. I don't wear it out in public much anymore, because I'm not so much the kind of person who flaunts their beliefs like I once was. But wearing it around campus was definitely a conversation-starter. I found that most liberals warmed to the quote, but when asked whether they'd still agree with it in the context of economic liberty and security, they kind of caught themselves re-examining what they thought about it. Yeah I've never looked at it that way, makes me rethink it too actually....Because I honestly see nothing wrong with socialised medicine, etc -------------------- |

I think on the Republican side right now, Ron Paul is the only person I would vote for. I actually prefer Dennis Kucinich to him, but Paul has a very respectable voting record and interesting opinions on the US.
I would post more on this, but it's late right now, so maybe later. --------------------

For those of you here who believes in Ron Paul and his message, please note that we, his supporters were able to donate at least $3.5 Million in a 24 hour period today. This undeniably will make the media stand up and take notice and hopefully give much anticipated media coverage to his rising campaign and message of freedom.
